Not to gain a prize or defeat a rival, but to pace one another on the road to excellence

The 94th Aberdeen and North East of Scotland Music Festival will take place from

Monday 5th to Friday 9th June 2017

in venues across the city, with the Final Challenge Recital to be held in Holburn West Church:

Final Evening Challenge Recital

7:30pm Friday 9th June 2017

The Festival is open to amateurs and welcomes performers of all ages in music, speech and drama. Performers are invited to compete in a variety of classes, and the Non-Competitive classes provide an opportunity for entrants to choose a programme suited to their level.

It is a great opportunity to experience performing in a safe and welcoming environment. Competitors receive immediate feedback on their efforts from a wide range of expert adjudicators, and more advanced performers can benefit from the public platform that the Festival provides.

Performers of Grade 7 standard and above may also have the opportunity to take part in an Aberdeen International Youth Festival concert in the summer.

New for this year:

  • the reintroduction of Harp
  • changes to the requirements for young Piano, String classes
  • the addition of Scott Skinner and song classes in Traditional
  • a new class for those wishing to represent the local Festival in the city’s International Festival later in the year.

  • The Festival is grateful to Albyn School who have kindly offered the use of their hall and lecture theatre. Another new venue this year is Mannofield Church and we are delighted to be returning to Holburn West Church, Hebron Evangelical Church and the Boys’ Brigade Hall.

We remain indebted to Kawai Pianos for their continued, and much appreciated, sponsorship of the Festival, and we look forward to another enjoyable and successful week of music, speech and drama.

Our hope is that all our competitors, teachers and audiences will continue to contribute to the longstanding, yet always evolving, Aberdeen and North East of Scotland Music Festival. If you would like to get involved in performing, organising or helping with the Festival, do get in touch!
